TXT have recently been promoting their new song “Love Language,” and performed on Inkigayo.
A video went viral online, seemingly showing shots from the fancam, and netizens noticed the alleged “whitewashing” as they noticed the members’ faces were significantly lighter than the rest of their skin, especially below the shoulders.

It sparked a major discussion in the comments. While some focused on the issue of whitewashing within K-Pop, others explained that it couldn’t always be taken to be done negatively, pointing out it was probably due to lighting and to help the members’ appearance on camera.
In particular, the video mentioned had LE SSERAFIM‘s Yunjin and NMIXX‘s Haewon speaking about makeup during shows. They explained that each music show and broadcasting station takes a different approach to makeup, which can change how an idol has to look to appear best on stage and on camera.
