For a genre that takes inspiration from global trends, K-Pop often catches accusations of ripping off other artists. However, the tables turned after an American popstar released a snippet of her upcoming release.

Singer-songwriter Bebe Rexha recently teased her new album, Dirty Blonde, on social media. With thirteen tracks, all with accompanying music videos, this record is expected to be a huge milestone in her career as an artist.

She also posted a video containing snippets of the songs, including music video clips—similar to the concept of “Highlight Medleys” in K-Pop.

Fans quickly noticed that the snippet of the song “Hysteria” sounded very familiar.

It didn’t take long for comparisons with BLACKPINK‘s “Jump” to start pouring in. While some called it a “blatant rip off” of the K-Pop release, others felt it was the same instrumental but “with better vocals.”

I've never heard such a blatant ripoff of a K-pop song in western music it's so fascinating because it's almost always the other way around https://t.co/HiGF60vLTn

There were also opposing opinions, with many arguing that the songs sounded similar because both soundscapes are heavily influenced by Eurodance, and that the allegations of “stealing” were simply ridiculous.

people who says this sounds like jump/brat are so uncultured and uneducated this is literally just club https://t.co/I15Oe8EZWe

People like ‘she copied Jump’

Well no. It’s Dutch Eurodance. Vengaboys popularised it in the 90s.
