It has become more common for idols to come out and be open about their sexuality.
Every Idol That Has Come Out As LGBTQIA+ Themselves
Yet, many parts of Korean society still have conservative views on sexuality, and in the past, it was still seen as taboo, especially for idols.
Recently, a story has regained attention online as it “exposed” the story of two idols in the same group who were caught in a relationship. It explained that when one of the members collapsed (A), the second member (B) rushed to his side, but a conversation was heard of “B” saying that “A” had acted a certain way during a broadcast. It then shared the reaction of the agency and that they couldn’t kick them out as they were the most popular members.
Several years ago, the waiting room of a broadcasting station was thrown into chaos. Shouts from the staff and the urgent voice of a manager filled the air.
“Get a hold of yourself!”
“Call 119 (emergency services)!”
On one side of the waiting room, a member of a boy group, referred to as A, collapsed as if fainting. As A gradually lost consciousness, another member, B, rushed to hold him up. As B supported A, and A regained his senses, his gaze was fixed on B’s face.
Sensing the strange atmosphere, the manager sent all members and staff outside. But inside the waiting room, the conversation between A and B was far from ordinary.
A: “How could you do this to me?”
B: “I told you not to act like that during the broadcast!”
A: “It just happened because I like you. Isn’t that only natural?”
At that moment, B slammed the door and stormed out.
It turned out that A and B were secretly a same-sex couple, something their agency had known. They were the two most popular members of their group, and expelling them wasn’t an option because the group would suffer too much. But the agency also couldn’t ignore the situation. In the end, the company had no choice but to protect their secret relationship.
The shocking part is that one time, A and B got into a fight at a music show, preventing their group from performing on that day.
It then continued to say that even after the incident, the two continued to be outwardly close, and the duo became well known in the industry.
Even afterward, the two continued showing signs of affection. Since they were always together at official events, people in the industry even nicknamed them “1+1″
There was even an incident where their contrasting personalities clashed. Outgoing A and calm, reserved B had a huge argument during the recording of a YouTube entertainment program. They were exchanging sneaky signals with one another, but B snapped when A ignored him. Even though B is usually calm, he could not hide his frustration that day, showing clear affection and emotional conflict in public.
Netizens seemed sceptical about the validity of the story, but as netizens shared the history of the publication, many started to believe it and what the impact could have been.

- “Is this real? Or did someone make this up with Photoshop or something?”
- “It’s a real article. They were famous male idols, but the group disbanded, and now one of them is actually working as a really famous actor.”
- “The article reads like a script from Love and War (a Korean drama about relationship conflicts), so it’s hard to believe… lol.”
- “But it’s true. It was an exclusive from Woman Sense — the same magazine that broke the Seo Taiji and Lee Ji Ah divorce story.”
- “I see… but this must’ve been a long time ago, right? lol. How did you even find out? Also, they must’ve caused a huge mess for their members. The other members probably had such a hard time dealing with them…”
- “Yeah, the managers really suffered too, since they had to cover everything up.”
