Harisu has revealed the heartbreaking treatment she had in the entertainment industry.

Harisu is a pioneering figure in LGBTQ+ representation and was the first transgender K-Pop idol.

The star recently appeared on a YouTube show.
While much of the conversation focused on her pets, Harisu got down to some heartbreaking moments she had starting in the industry as trans.
She explained that sometimes, she was given opportunities that pushed negative stereotypes for trans people, including a role where she would have to have sex and absorb men’s energy to become “Sister Risu.”
Yet, she denied it as she didn’t want to portray that kind of character, but adding that the production team threatened to out her through blackmail.
In 2001, she got a cosmetics advertisement.
Yet, even as she became more noticed, Harisu explained that she had harsh and horrible comments, including questioning her gender, and even asking her for sex or to undress.
Harisu added that because of this, she had to give up a lot of roles, and her co-stars were heartbroken.
Many parts of Korean society have and still hold more traditional views about gender and sexuality.
