Cha Eun Woo, a member of the popular K-pop group ASTRO, has officially confirmed his role as the lead actor in the upcoming comedy film "First Ride" (working title).
The announcement, made on April 3, marks a significant milestone in Eun Woo's acting career, as this will be his first time leading a feature film. It also marks his return to the big screen in three years following his last movie, "Decibel" in 2022.
Eun Woo will star alongside acclaimed actor Kang Ha Neul, who is reportedly in the final stages of confirming his participation. Other cast members include Kim Young Kwang, Kang Young Seok, and SECRET's Han Sun Hwa.
"Cha Eun Woo recently finalized his decision to star in the film 'First Ride,' for which he received a casting offer. We sincerely thank everyone for their interest and love for our artist Cha Eun Woo, and we ask for your continued support in the future," Fantagio, the idol's agency, confirmed in a statement.
"First Ride" follows the story of four lifelong friends who go on their first overseas trip together after turning 30. The comedy film will explore themes of friendship, personal growth, and adventure.
The movie will be directed by Nam Dae Jung—known for films like "Love Reset" and "Homme Fatale." It is not immediately clear when "First Ride" will premiere in theaters.
Eun Woo began his acting career with a cameo role in the 2014 film "My Brilliant Life" before gaining widespread recognition for his lead role in the 2018 drama "My ID is Gangnam Beauty." Since then, he has starred in several hit dramas, including "Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung" (2019), "True Beauty" (2020-2021), and "Island" (2022-2023).
Currently, Eun Woo is filming the Netflix series "The WONDERfools," a superhero-themed comedy-drama where he plays Lee Woon-jung, an individual grappling with unwanted superpowers. The series, which began production in October 2024, is set to conclude filming by May 2025.
