Jisoo's upcoming zombie drama with Park Jeong Min had everyone invested in the show's photo teasers, but in its newly released trailer, netizens directed their attention to Jisoo's acting skills.
On January 7, the first trailer for Newtopia was uploaded, pouring hype on viewers who are patiently waiting for the show. The trailer begins with Young Joo (played by Jisoo) asking for some time away from her soldier boyfriend Jae Yoon (played by Park Jung Min).
The trailer then proceeds to present the zombie-infested Seoul with comedic flavor and the couple's attempts to reunite with each other.
Despite the trailer's intention to excite audiences, the video trended in an online forum, where netizens criticized Jisoo's acting skills.
"Jisoo-yah, can you come back after practicing acting a bit?" one commented.
"Seriously, what are they gonna do about Jisoo's acting," a second netizen shared. "I tried enduring her while watching this, but I felt right away that Jisoo can't act."
"Acting aside, can she fix her pronunciation and vocalization?" another stated.
Others also mentioned how they hoped Jisoo to improve since her lead role in Snow Drop, while also expressing worry for her upcoming role in Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint. However, some defended Jisoo, saying how unfair it was to judge her acting skills based on the trailer alone.
"I don't think it's fair to judge her from the clipped five seconds they showed us of her tbh," a fan shared. "I feel like people are jumping into conclusions and overreacting."
Another commented, "They're so worried about the 'acting' just by watching the smallest bits used in a trailer. Sure."
