Controversial YouTuber Sojang Faces 4-Year Prison Sentence From Prosecutors Due to Defamation Charges

Prosecutors have requested a four-year prison sentence for disgraced YouTuber Sojang.

On October 22, Sojang had admitted to all the charges and stated that she was "deeply reflecting."

Sojang has also been indicted with insult and defamation charges under the Act on Promotion of Information and Communication Network Utilization and Information Protection.

Sojang appeared in an all-black outfit at the court and confirmed that "nothing had changed" regarding her details or address, Dispatch reported.

The court then outlined the charges, mentioning five occasions containing the spread of false information, the damaging of reputation, and interference with the celebrities' activities.

The YouTuber previously disclosed groundless information regarding EXO Suho and aespa Karina. Her attorney then shared that Sojang had acknowledged all accusations before adding, "Her actions were not deliberate but rather unintentional and not solely for profit."

The attorney also shared that Sojang was currently focusing her energy on volunteer work and receiving mental health treatment. Moreover, a settlement with the victims was attempted, and Sojang was mediated in the civil court.

Despite the efforts, the attorney shared it was challenging to reach an agreement. The representative also pleaded to the court for leeway for Sojang since the YouTuber has a scheduled surgery in November.

Sojang then replied that her circumstances would not hinder her attendance at the court. Afterward, the prosecution imposed a four-year prison sentence on Sojang, alongside a heavy fine of ₩211 million won ($153 million).

The court then highlighted that Sojang had actively produced false videos and created a paid membership system to hate on the victims' appearance, character, and relationships.

Sojang read her reflection, "I sincerely apologize for causing great harm to the victims and I am deeply reflecting."
