WJSN‘s (Cosmic Girls) Dayoung recently hit it big with her solon debut, “body.” The song was a late summer banger, with many becoming fans thanks to her talent and hard work.
Many already knew that she had been practicing for three years for her moment in the spotlight. From dieting and training her body, to leveling up her live vocals, Dayoung worked hard to shine. But what most didn’t know was that she had prepared everything by herself. On a recent radio show, Dayoung confessed that she had secretly spent two months in The States alone, without staff. She worked hard to contact producers and worked on her music before presenting it to her company later.

“Honestly, I felt it deep in my bones three years ago that I really wanted to do a solo. So for two years, I practiced the basics, took lessons for song writing and composition. I kept sending the songs to the company higher ups and asking them to review it. For two years, I was basically a woman possessed. For two years I worked so hard that even the members wrote letters for me. I stuck the letters on my wall. One member who left the company already wrote that she believed my voice and my work would be presented to the world. She said she was sure that everyone would love my voice. Exactly one year ago, I felt that I was ready. So I told the company that I’d go rest for two years and I went to America. I came back and said sorry to the company. There was something I really wanted to focus on for two months, so I asked the team for time. They gave me two months so I booked my flight and I contacted many songwriters telling them that I’m a K-Pop artist and I wanted to do this and that and asked for help. Eric Nam sunbaenim was also the middle-man. He helped connect me with people and helped production a lot too.I don’t know much about America, so he helped me alot. After I finished my creation, I thought that if I really did it well the company would like it too. The directors and higher-ups really liked it though and told me they didn’t know I went there to do this. So after that, the vice-chairperson told me to do what I want and to try things out.”
Dayoung’s hard work definitely paid off!
