Did Lady Gaga Shade BLACKPINK’s Lisa And Jennie? Quote About Lip Syncing Goes Viral After “Coachella” 

On April 11-13, the first weekend of Coachella 2025 took place, and was marked as a massive weekend for fans of K-Pop artists.

ENHYPEN and BLACKPINK’s Lisa and Jennie took the stage, along with girl group XG and artists from around the world. Some performances, particularly those from the BLACKPINK members, were met with mixed emotions that included lip-syncing allegations.

Now, after the festival some have questioned if one of the event’s headliners threw “shade” at Lisa and Jennie.

Lady Gaga, known for her long musical career, performed during the festival’s first night and was the highest billed performer for the night.

In the time since the event, a viral quote attributed to Lady Gaga has gone viral. In the quote, she states that she doesn’t lip sync and will never do so, telling audiences she would never waste their time in that way.

I never lip sync, I never have lip synced, and I never will. And as long as you’re paying money to buy ticket to see my show, I’m not gonna waste your time watching a b*tch lip sync her way through an HBO special.

The final portion of the quote mentioning an HBO special has been taken to be a dig at Lisa and Jennie, who both appeared in HBO programs. With them also attending the festival, some took it as throwing shade at the two idols.

However, despite the timing, there is more to the explanation than this.

Lady Gaga did say this quote, as seen in another viral tweet on X, where she is seen making a speech while on stage performing.

This speech was actually made in February 2011, during her New York date for her Monster Ball world tour. The part of the quote mentioning an “HBO special” is talking about how the show was being recording for HBO and her own thoughts about lip syncing.

So, the quote is definitely not about BLACKPINK, who were not even teenagers when it was made. Alternatively, Lady Gaga and BLACKPINK have collaborated in the past on the track “Hard Candy” off the singer’s Mayhem album.
