G-Dragon has recently made his comeback to the K-Pop scene with back-to-back solo releases and judging by the music chart performance of those songs, it’s almost as if he never left.
On November 22, KST, G-Dragon dropped his latest song, “Home Sweet Home,” featuring his BIGBANG bandmates Taeyang and Daesung. The song is addressed to the fans who have patiently waited for his return to music.
The track was released without much prior promotion. On November 21, KST, G-Dragon surprised fans with a post hinting at the new music release. It contained only an image of three piano keys, hinting at the return of BIGBANG.
This song marked G-Dragon’s first Friday 2 pm release, the new standardized release time for K-Pop songs. While Friday releases help boost song performances for US Billboard charts, it puts them at a disadvantage for Korean music charts.
Despite this setback, “Home Sweet Home” managed to easily crack into the Melon Top 100 chart. The song climbed to the third spot shortly after its release, reflecting the sustaining public interest in G-Dragon and BIGBANG’s music.
Needless to say, people were left flabbergasted by how well the song was performing on the chart, only cementing G-Dragon’s position as an exceptional K-Pop powerhouse.
- “What’s up with GD?”
- “Wow, GD. What?”
— “They didn’t even tell us the song title, they didn’t upload it to the public domain, they didn’t promote it at all. But what’s that?”
- “The funny thing is, on my timeline, there were BIGBANG fans who learned about this song just now.”
- “Seems like people really waited a lot for GD, LOL.”
- “What is GD, really?”
- “G-Dragon is G-Dragon.”
- “G-Dragon is a legend.”
MD: G-Dragon’s new song, which was dropped without prior announcements or much promotion, has drawn unexpected listeners on the very first day of its release.
