SM Entertainment is facing backlash after Giselle revealed that the label rejected aespa's self-written song. MYs then recalled similar experiences of their seniors SNSD and EXO.
On December 2, aespa had their dearmymuse fan signing event. Just then, one of the participants who was able to interact with Giselle asked her about the progress of aespa's song she's recently making, along with the other members Karina, Winter, and NingNing.
She initially ignited fans' excitement after confirming that it was finally completed, but Giselle immediately ended this anticipation as she revealed that SM rejected the song. She gave the OP permission to reveal this info and spread the word to the public.

When this info made it to social media, MYs (aespa fandom) expressed their frustrations, saying that the label is once again holding back their group from being self-produced. Fans also conveyed their disappointment as aespa is currently at the peak of their career, and releasing self-composed tracks will give them more opportunities to work globally.
In October, they dropped their special digital single, "SYNK: PARALLEL LINE," which comprised their respective self-written solo tracks. At the time, all of the songs rose to the top of various music charts. Following this, many are hoping that they will create more music of their own — but, as it turns out, SM Entertainment is limiting their potential again.
This is not the first time that the label refused the idea that their artists release their own songs.
In the past, Girls' Generation hinted that the reason was due to the song not matching the group's original worldview or concept.

In an interview, Tiffany exposed SM.
"Some of us put forward the work that we've been doing, but we just got them back. They know what concept they want and want lyrics like, 'unknown world,' 'goddess of fortune,' 'Athena, the goddess of wisdom.' They want things like that in the lyrics."

EXO was also one of the artists who were vocal in their dissatisfaction after SM didn't allow them to release their own songs. When Sehun dropped his solo song "On Me" in 2020, which was written by Chanyeol's team, he revealed that SM rejected it multiple times.
They wanted him to release another song, but he insisted. Once it was released, it turned out to be one of the most loved songs in the album.
Meanwhile, MYs are continuing to spread what Giselle said, aiming to call out SM and change their initial decision.
