KANGMIN Makes His Long‑Awaited Solo Debut With the Vulnerable and Atmospheric “Free Falling”

VERIVERY’s youngest member opens a new chapter with a candid, self‑penned single album that traces the emotional turbulence of growing up, letting go, and leaping forward.

VERIVERY’s KANGMIN has officially stepped into the spotlight on his own, releasing his first solo single album Free Falling—a milestone that marks both his solo debut and the first individual release from the group.

Soft‑spoken yet emotionally charged, Free Falling captures KANGMIN’s present self as he navigates the liminal space between adolescence and adulthood. The album’s title evokes the literal sensation of falling mid‑air—disoriented, searching for something to hold onto, yet still moving forward. That tension becomes the backbone of the project, which KANGMIN describes as a journal of the questions, doubts, and revelations that surfaced after his appearance on Mnet’s hit survival program BOYS II PLANET.

Rather than presenting a polished or perfected version of himself, KANGMIN leans into vulnerability.

“I filled this album with stories that I wanted to share honestly with you all, so I hope you could think of who KANGMIN is while listening to this album,” he shares.

A Soft, Honest Opening

The single album begins with “Intro: small, fragile and still here.”, a lo‑fi, introspective track co‑written by KANGMIN and VERIVERY’s leader DONGHEON, who also contributed to its composition. The intro captures the delicate emotional landscape of a boy who wants to shine, be loved, and be seen—yet is still figuring out how to stand confidently in his own light.

DONGHEON praised the youngest member’s dedication, saying:

“Our youngest member KANGMIN worked very hard on this album to convey his own music and story, so please give it a lot of love and support!”

A Turbulent, R&B‑Pop Title Track

The album’s centerpiece, “Free Falling,” is a contemporary R&B‑pop track that mirrors the emotional push‑and‑pull of a relationship caught between affection and hurt. KANGMIN participated in writing the lyrics, which explore the cycle of drifting apart and coming back together—mirroring the album’s broader themes of uncertainty and emotional gravity.

The music video deepens that atmosphere through shifting perspectives and evocative imagery. Rather than spelling out a narrative, it leaves viewers suspended in feeling, following the emotional current as scenes blur between longing, confusion, and release.

A Closing Confession

The project concludes with “in the mirror,” a mid‑tempo pop track that confronts the discomfort of facing one’s own reflection—literally and figuratively. The lyrics describe the instinct to push away difficult thoughts, only to realize that acceptance is the only way forward. Through his vocals, KANGMIN confesses the internal tug‑of‑war between wanting to stay the same and needing to grow.
