Legendary Idol Admits To Suffering Through Extreme Emotional Distress After Moving To Seoul

In a recent YouTube video with Yoo Jae Suk, a beloved idol talked about suffering through extreme emotional struggles after moving to Seoul.

The idol in question is Lee Hyori, one of the top legends of K-Pop.

In the June 28 episode of Yoo’s popular YouTube show, Pinggyego, Lee Hyori talked candidly about her life in Seoul after moving to the city from Jeju.

The singer mentioned that she moved to Seoul with her five dogs, and as soon as they arrived, two of them started getting sick. She immediately assumed that it was because of the move and wondered if she should go back. But we eventually adjusted,” she added.

Lee Hyori reflected on the other difficulties of making such a drastic move, going from her home in the mountains to a populous city. Her conversations with her husband, Lee Sang Soon, often involved her expressing her wish to go back home.

I was feeling really down and would say, ‘Oppa, I want to go back to Jeju,’ and he’d say, ‘Wanna go to the department store?’ There are no department stores in Jeju. I’d think, ‘What difference would that make?’

But the idol then shared an anecdote that changed her mind.

Shortly after moving to Seoul, Lee Sang Soon was appointed as the DJ for MBC FM4U‘s A Perfect Day with Lee Sang Soon. So, Lee Hyori spent a lot more time alone at home. She admitted that things got even harder for her during this time.

After doing the radio show for three months and getting his paycheck, he told me he wanted to buy me a Chanel bag. Before moving to Jeju, I had sold all my luxury bags and didn’t have a single one left. He said he had always dreamed of buying his wife a nice bag once he got married.

She continued, sharing that they went to the Shinsegae Department Store in Gangnam to buy the bag. She had to call stylist Han Hye Yeon to inquire about the purchase process and then make a reservation to finally buy the bag from the store. Lee Hyori admitted that when her husband finally handed her the bag, it gave her butterflies.

The singer, who had been previously indifferent to luxury goods, admitted while laughing that the shopping trip ended up making her feel much better. “I even have a song with lyrics like, ‘What’s the big deal about luxury brands? Do luxury bags make me shine?” she quipped, adding, “I feel like I owe people an apology. When I stepped onto the escalator and saw my reflection, I was glowing. I was sparkling.”
