Three years after Squid Game became a global sensation, Lee Jung Jae is back as Gi Hun (Player 456) to lead an all-star cast into the next round of deadly games. This action-packed horror-thriller promises new villains to hate and new heroes to root for.
New details about the cast are being revealed as Squid Game 2‘s release date approaches. Here’s what we know about them so far.
1. Thanos (Player 230)
Player 230 is played by a former member of BIGBANG, T.O.P (Choi Seung Hyun). In one Squid Game 2 trailer, Player 230 eliminates fellow players by pushing them, triggering the laser-eyed Red Light, Green Light robot from Season 1.
Like T.O.P, Thanos is a rapper, or at least he used to be. He lost all his money to another player’s crypto scheme.
Thanos is a retired rapper. After watching Myungi’s YouTube and putting full confidence in him, Thanos went all-in, investing all the money he’d saved. But he ended up losing it all, which led him to join the game.

2. Myun Gi (Player 333)
Myung Gi (played by Im Si Wan, also known as Yim Si Wan ) is a YouTube star turned fugitive who lost a fortune in a crypto scam. Unfortunately, his subscribers also lost a lot of money because of him–and some of them are in the game.
3. Jun Hee (Player 222)
Jun Hee (played by Jo Yu Ri) is Myung Gi’s ex-girlfriend. Jo Yu Ri described her as “independent and persistent,” who like most of the players, is strapped for cash. She joins the game after losing money in Myung Gi’s crypto scheme. Unsurprisingly, she isn’t too happy about being reunited with her ex, who gave her some seriously bad financial advice.
4. Yong Sik (Player 007)
Yong Sik (played by Yang Dong Geun) is “an immature, shameless gambler” buried in debt. He is shocked to discover that his mother, Geum Ja, is also in the games. According to Yang Dong Geum, Geum Ja is Yong Sik’s “anchor.”
5. Geum Ja (Player 149)
Because of her son’s gambling debt, Geum Ja (played by Kang Ae Shim) has zipped up a green jumpsuit in the hopes of winning the grand prize. She is selfless and deeply committed to providing for her family. She had no idea that Yong Sik had also entered the games to try to pay off his debt.
6. Jung Bae (Player 390)
Jung Bae (Lee Seo Hwan) is an “immature friend” of Gi Hun. He is one of the few Season 2 characters who also appeared–albeit briefly–in Season 1. Like Gi Hun, he lost money by gambling. The two share a comradery that will likely be tested in Season 2.
7. Dae Ho (Player 388)
Dae Ho (Kang Ha Neul) is an ex-Marine and “macho guy” who Kang Ha Neul described as “a friendly trickster.” He’s tough and sly but also has a fragile side that’s hidden beneath the metaphorical layers of armor he wears to protect himself.
8. Hyun Ju (Player 120)
Hyun Ju (Park Sung Hoon) is a former special forces soldier and a transgender woman. She joins the game because she needs money for her gender-affirming surgery. She is strong, decisive, and a natural leader who breaks down stereotypes and inspires others.
9. Gyeong Seok (Player 246)
Actor Lee Jin Uk described his character as an ordinary man and father. His young daughter has been diagnosed with blood cancer. He joins the game to pay for her treatment.
10. No Eul
No Eul (Park Gyu Young) is a former soldier and North Korean defector, who had to leave her baby behind in North Korea. Her only goal is to reunite with her child. Unlike most of the new cast, she was not shown wearing a uniform, which could mean she has another role in the game, such as guard.
11. Seon Nyeo (Player 044)
Chae Kook Hee plays a once-powerful shaman who delivers curses and ill-fated predictions to other people in the game. She brings dark comedic relief to an otherwise tense atmosphere.
12. Min Su (Player 125)
Min Su (Lee David) is a “super timid” man in his 20s who lacks confidence. According to Lee David, he serves as an everyman, in the sense that he is ordinary and relatable to young people.
13. Nam Gyu (Player 124)
Nam Gyu (Roh Jae Won) used to work in nightclub. He becomes Thanos’ underling in the game, and he bullies meek Min Su.
14. Se Mi (Player 380)
Se Mi (Won Ji An) is a bold and determined player, who would rather hit “X” to continue playing the game than return to her life outside of it. She’s strong but also the type to treat gentler people, like Min Su, kindly.
