After years of rumors, first-generation K-Pop star and television personality Lee Hyori has finally addressed the allegations that she has a personal feud with fellow singer IU.

Lee Hyori and IU originally formed a friendship with each other on the JTBC show Hyori’s Homestay back in 2017, which saw the star and her husband open a guesthouse on Jeju Island. The two became so close during IU’s stay that Hyori even described her as “a gift from God.”

However, despite their bond on the show, netizens became suspicious when the pair barely seemed to interact publicly afterward. The speculation intensified after IU invited fellow Hyori’s Homestay participants to her concerts, while Lee Hyori herself was nowhere to be seen.

Fans also pointed to Instagram as evidence of tension, as neither of the pair followed the other. While it was believed that Hyori had simply failed to re-follow IU after deactivating her Instagram account, many remained unconvinced.

The rumors then resurfaced again last year when IU surprisingly didn’t appear on Hyori’s edition of the talk show The Seasons, despite guesting when Park Bo Gum hosted the show this year. Since the appearance in August, netizens have been discussing the allegations of discord on Korean community sites.

Now, Lee Hyori has finally opened up about where things really stand between the two stars in an appearance on the popular YouTube channel DdeunDdeun with her husband, Lee Sang Soon, and celebrity couple Hong Hyun Hee and Jason.

During the show, the conversation turned to the couple’s sweet habit of gifting mangoes from a friend’s Jeju Island farm to people they’re grateful for each year.

Lee Hyori then went on to reveal, “There aren’t many people who look after us with that kind of thoughtfulness, but there are still a few who do. People like these two [Hong Hyun Hee and Jason], [Yoo] Jae Suk-oppa, and IU.”

Finally putting the allegations to rest by showing her love and appreciation for IU, she added, “I’m really grateful for that. Even when someone takes care of us in a small way, I’m so thankful.”
