Red Velvet Joy’s first original solo album may have been warmly received musically, but the sales numbers are telling a different story. Despite strong reactions from netizens, From Joy, with Love is struggling to sell many copies and keep up with other Red Velvet members’ solo debuts.

On its first day of release, From Joy, with Love sold just over 38,000 copies. This marks a significant drop compared to Joy’s own remake mini album Hello, which reached 57,000 in first-day sales back in 2021. Fans were quick to note the gap, especially since this comeback is her first time showcasing entirely original songs.

The contrast becomes sharper when looking at the other Red Velvet solo projects. Wendy’s Like Water moved more than 68,000 copies on day one, while Seulgi’s 28 Reasons cleared 134,000. The highest so far came from Irene, whose debut mini album Like A Flower sold a whopping 250,000 copies — the highest of all SM Entertainment’s female solo artists and the 3rd highest across all female K-Pop soloists.

Red Velvet’s Irene Shocks With Album Sales And Chart Performance Following Solo Debut

As a result of the poor sales numbers, fans were left disappointed that such a well-received album fell short in sales, pointing to its quality in both sound and design. Others remain optimistic, pointing instead towards Joy’s positive chart performance and the love her new songs are receiving.

i feel a little disappointed because the album is so beautiful from the music to the design :’) but joy seems to be charting well so i’m really happy 🥹 https://t.co/nrYZlxk3f4

While the album may not have met expectations in terms of physical sales, Joy’s comeback is still sparking discussion and showing her ability to connect with listeners through a different side of her artistry.
