SHINee's Key, real name Kim Kibum, has donated 50 million won (~$34,000) to a children's hospital, receiving gratitude from recipients in kind.
The idol contributed to Kyungpook National University Children's Hospital on December 30, when the hospital hosted a donation ceremony that afternoon to fund the treatment of pediatric patients.
The sizeable donation will support children battling various illnesses, providing much-needed relief to families struggling to afford medical expenses. Key's mother also works as a nurse at the facility, and the idol was photographed with her in his donation to the organization.
In 2019, Key donated 10 million KRW (~$6,800) to Chilgok Kyungpook National University Hospital in Daegu, where he's from, once again earmarked for pediatric medical expenses.
In 2023, benefactors of Key's noblesse oblige shared stories through comments on the DdeunDdeun YouTube channel.
One commenter revealed that Key had quietly covered their son's non-reimbursable medication costs for leukemia, expressing their eternal gratitude.
"SHINee's Key, thank you so much for supporting my son's treatment. It was a substantial expense, but your help has given him the chance to live well. We are endlessly grateful," they wrote.
