I’m not deep enough into the BTS fandom to know this song existed prior to today, and I’m not even sure it warrants a review given its irreverence. However, new BTS releases are few and far between these days, and this is technically Jin’s first (though not new) song since being discharged from the military.
From what the internet tells me, Super Tuna (슈퍼참치) was first unveiled in 2021 — albeit in shortened form. It’s essentially a gag song about fishing, which you can pretty much discern after one time through the music video. Now extended to two minutes and ten seconds (that counts as a full song these days!), this Super Tuna is ready to be served in all its glory.
While it feels a bit silly to “rate” a song like this, I do appreciate its goofy charm. It sounds like a mix between trot and Eurobeat, which is kind of awesome. It’s nice to see Jin not taking himself too seriously, but I would love a K-pop act to see what they could do with these genres when novelty is no longer a crutch to lean on. I’m ready to order up a Eurobeat revival, hold the tuna.
