“Their debut was literally inappropriate…”

Girl group Young Posse‘s lyrics for a recent track have sparked disgust among netizens.

Since their debut, the group has sparked controversy for their concept and how appropriate the music is. In particular, the youngest two members are minors, with Doeun being 17 and the maknae Jieun being only 15.
Recently, major X account @nugupromoter and other netizens pointed out how lyrics from the group’s song “soju” from the album Growing Pain pt.1 : Free seem extremely inappropriate for a group that has underage members. They shared examples of the lyrics and their anger towards the words.
Fans have noticed the inappropriate lyrics of some of the tracks on YOUNG POSSE's recent album such as 'Take off your underwear' and 'I'm shaking my fatty'. Specially since some members are underaged (15, 17)
We urge @official_DSP and @beats_ent_twt to offer an explanation.… pic.twitter.com/uHC6bhLji5

not to detract from anything but a song about soju recorded by a group full of teenagers was a terrible idea to start with https://t.co/nJzF9fdvnq

Fans tried to defend the lyrics, bringing up possible non-explicit meanings and that the lyrics were written and sang by the older members who are of age.
the 5 young posse members are the only ones credited as official writers on SOJU. specifically, the 3 adults of drinking age composed the song & are the only ones who sang the “shaking my fatty” , etc. lyrics
be concerned but dont spread straightup misinfo. pic.twitter.com/Ghtvg0Yyb3

Um… random korean here😅 I don’t know this group but ‘take off your underwear’ is common slang phrase meaning ‘lose your mind’ like ‘팬티벗고 소리질러(take off your underwear and scream)’ or like ‘소리벗고 팬티질러(take off your scream and underwear)’ you can easily search it https://t.co/L9jZ7qtHsp

Yet, even fans trying to defend the groups didn’t sit well with netizens. They thought that the older members writing it or the minors not singing it didn’t take away from the fact that the company accepted it, and the youngest members were still involved in the songs. In particular, some added that if a group and the older members wanted to use these kinds of concepts, they should not debut with such young idols.
These girls are extremely talented and this is why Kpop agencies should stop debuting minor. The loophole is that they could say “the members writing the lyrics are not minors”; but still, there are minors in the group. https://t.co/tTPsRbF7r4

maybe i’m too woke but i think lyrics should be appropriate for all the members of any group and it doesn’t matter that one who wrote the inappropriate lyrics is an adult. if you wanna take a group in that direction then don’t debut with children. https://t.co/SK9mrOWYzb

“it was written by them” that’s actually more concerning that in the entire process of writing, recording, mixing and preparing this song that the countless adults who surround them didn’t do anything to stop this song and even encouraged it https://t.co/f8R6RSDc9t
