A new release from a 4th generation idol has been put under the microscope by fans. Some believe that there’s more to the “official music video” than meets the eye.

In February, soloist AleXa opened up about her lack of promotions. AleXa told fans that she is still a K-Pop idol and that this misconception stems from her lack of promotions.

AleXa went on to explain that she hadn’t been properly promoted for two years, and the reason for it was a mystery, even to her.

I just, I haven’t promoted in like two years. I don’t know why. I can’t tell you why. I don’t know. But I’m hoping that this year I promote. If not this year, then next year, so we’ll see. But right now, we’re working on an English album release, and the first single is coming out Friday, so I hope that though the aspect of K-Pop is not present that you still support me and my artistry moving forward with this American album. Yeah, ’cause it’s kind of all I got right now…

In June, AleXa made her comeback with an angsty English single called “i’m okay.” In the comments section, AleXa said that the song “means a lot” to her.

okay

just want to say thank you so much for waiting so patiently for the song to drop 🥹 i know y’all had a taste of it six months back at the jingle ball, but the day is finally here!!! this song means a lot to me, and i hope it becomes a meaningful song for y’all as well stay strong and never be afraid to seek help

Still, AleXa expressed her disappointment in her career’s direction on X, writing “i miss doing kpop lmao.”

So, when the teaser dropped for AleXa’s “Under the Armor” on December 10, fans hoped that this release might mark her return to K-Pop and the fictional universe that was established in her earlier K-Pop music videos.

Unfortunately, those hopes were dashed when fans realized that “Under the Armor” is a performance video that has been “rebranded” as an official music video. “Under the Armor” was not recorded recently and the song is not in Korean.

In the comment section, some fans expressed excitement for the “comeback,” but others believe that AleXa’s agency, ZB Label, released the song without her permission and at a less-than-ideal time, too. AleXa’s father passed away in October.

“Under the Armor” has also been promoted on AleXa’s X and Instagram accounts, but even so, some netizens feel that the release is “shady” and was possibly done without AleXa’s approval.
