Viral KATSEYE Roblox Video Triggers A Heated Debate About Manon

A viral fan-made video is attracting plenty of attention on TikTok, and not all of it is positive.

Recently, GAP announced that KATSEYE had become the brand’s newest ambassadors. GAP’s ad featuring denim-clad KATSEYE dancing to Kelis‘s “Milkshake” song quickly went viral, with some netizens comparing it to Sydney Sweeney‘s  American Eagle denim ad.

A TikTok user by the name of chrowmiee recreated the ad with Roblox animation, capturing KATSEYE’s choreography, outfits, and attitude. In just 24 hours, the video racked up over 16 million views on TikTok.

KATSEYE and GAP reacted positively to the animation…

…while a heated argument about Manon‘s portrayal raged in the comment section.

Some users drew attention to Manon’s skin tone, saying that Manon, who is mixed race, looks “white” in the animation.

However, many other commenters defended the video, arguing that animated Manon’s skin tone isn’t far off from real Manon’s, that Manon is “light skin,” and that Roblox has a limited color palette for skin tones.

The debate has made its way over to other social media platforms as well, such as Reddit. There some users felt that the issue was actually a non-issue was being blown out of proportion.
