Why SEVENTEEN BSS’s New Music Video Includes A Disclaimer

Today, SEVENTEEN sub unit BSS (DK, Hoshi, and Seungkwan) made their long-awaited comeback with their second single album TELEPARTY (telepathy + party), including the title track, “CBZ (Prime Time)” and its MV.

Before the MV officially began, a disclaimer appeared in Korean, translated as, “This content was planned during the first half of 2024 and does not represent any actual persons, events, entities, or locations.”

Some viewers might be scratching their heads, wondering about the purpose of such a disclaimer on the group’s music video. The reason is due to heightened political tensions in South Korea.

Previously, it was reported that on December 3, 2024, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared an “emergency martial law” via a televised briefing, promising to “eradicate pro-North Korean forces and protect the constitutional democratic order.” He accused the opposition of “controlling the parliament,” “sympathizing” with North Korea, and immobilizing the government through anti-state actions.

Since then, the National Assembly demanded the President’s emergency martial law be lifted. All 190 attending members (out of 300) voted unanimously to block the martial law. Additionally, rallies have been held calling for the impeachment of President Yoon. The National Assembly has since voted for his impeachment. 

Considering the recent news, the disclaimer appeared to have been added as a precautionary measure by BSS and Pledis Entertainment to avoid allegations that they were making any political statement with their comeback. Their concept for BSS’s TELEPARTY included an election rally, which was even more evident in teasers.

CARATs have found amusement in BSS’s inclusion of the disclaimer in all their comeback videos. Yet, they know the recent events must have stressed staff and artists.
