YOUNG POSSE drew flak for its upcoming winter track "Santa Claus is coming to hood," causing the song's omission.
According to DSP Media and BEATS Entertainment, fifth-gen K-pop girl group YOUNG POSSE will have a winter fan concert, titled "HOMECOMING POSSE," on December 14. Moreover, it was also announced the group would be dropping winter season songs.
While the announcement infused excitement into fans, some were disappointed by the titles of the tracks "Street Carol" (feat. John Park) and "Santa Claus is coming to hood."
YOUNG POSSE is known for being influenced by the hip-hop genre, and netizens came to think that the group's newest song titles were mocking Black culture.
The backlash eventually reached agencies DSP Media and BEATS Entertainment, which both released a statement announcing the removal of "Santa Claus is coming to hood."
However, the agencies disclosed that "Street Carol" would be released on December 13, at 6 PM, KST, as planned.
"After taking our fans' opinions into consideration, we have decided not to include the track 'Santa Claus is coming to hood' from YOUNG POSSE digital album."
The statement added, "We will do our best to be more mindful of the opinions of our fans and all listeners moving forward. Thank you."
Meanwhile, fans also shared their thoughts on the mishap, and encouraged the agencies to be more sensitive with their planning.
