In a recent interview held with director Kim Byung Woo, he revealed his honest thoughts about the background of casting BLACKPINK’s Jisoo in the movie, Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint.
In the film, Jisoo plays the role of Lee Ji Hye, a high school student who follows Yoo Jung Hyeok and calls him master. This character is a powerful fighter with Admiral Yi Sun Sin as her constellation, who believes “each person’s survival is the simplest and fairest path.”
Regarding casting Jisoo for the role, he stated, “The timing of her appearance in the film is late.” He explained that structural limitations made it inevitable for her to appear later in the movie, even though her character had a significant role in the original work.
Because of this, the director felt that there was strategic judgment in using an actor widely known to the public for the role so that her presence would be more prominent.
He added, “If it weren’t for Jisoo, I probably would have just passed without knowing,” emphasizing the effectiveness of casting well-known actors.
When asked about Jisoo’s screen time, he responded, “There are no edits, so it’s just the amount written in the scenario.”
Regarding her character’s background, he left the possibility of a sequel open.
If we can make a sequel, we will have to think about how to build it in the future.
