“K-Pop Avengers” — “M Countdown” To Have MCs From Top 5 Entertainment Agencies

Mnet’s music program M Countdown is planning a radical change with a new MC lineup. They are pushing for a so-called “K-pop Avengers” MC team, bringing together idols from the top K-pop entertainment companies.

According to Sports Chosun, the new faces of “M Countdown” are expected to consist of five idols, each from one of the five major music agencies in Korea.

Artists from JYP Entertainment, YG Entertainment, CJ ENM’s sub-label WakeOne, and other top five agencies will each take one spot, forming a “golden lineup.”

It is very rare for members from these five major agencies to unite as a single MC group for a music show. In the fiercely competitive K-pop market, driven by agency pride, this formation can be seen as the musical broadcast version of the “Avengers.”

Discussions are ongoing whether all five will be male idols, female idols, or a mixed-gender group.

This restructuring is especially meaningful as it continues M Countdown’s unique philosophy of MC operation. Unlike other music shows that usually maintain a two- or three-MC system with mixed genders, M Countdown has a history of creating unique chemistry through “male+male” MC duos.

Since some fixed MC positions have been vacant since last September, this “5 major agencies alliance MC” strategy is expected to raise global K-pop fans’ anticipation to its peak.

The production team is currently holding meetings to bring together key members from the five major agencies as MCs. As curiosity grows about which idols will fill the M Countdown MC seats, attention is on whether this Avengers lineup will further solidify M Countdown’s position as a global music program.
