In the latest episode of The Manager (also known as Point of Omniscient Interfere or Omniscient Interfering View), “OG” K-Pop duo FLY TO THE SKY‘s Hwanhee appeared alongside his groupmate Brian and shared a slice of his life with the viewers.

At one point during the episode, show host and TV star Jun Hyun Moo brought up Hwanhee’s recent attempt at the trot genre. As Jun Hyun Moo mentioned how the older “noona” fans are falling in love with him, fellow show host and comedian Song Eun Yi asked what made him make the wild switch.

Jun Hyun Moo: You’re the light of all the noonas in their 50s through 80s these days! They love you so much—your fanbase has really expanded, hasn’t it?
Song Eun Yi: But you used to do R&B. Did you decide to completely switch genres to trot?
Hwanhee said it was all for his mother. While, in the past, he considered trot “a genre that just wasn’t for [him],” he changed his mind when his mother told him she couldn’t sing along to his songs.

I always thought trot was a genre that just wasn’t for me. It seemed too difficult. But my mom told me there hasn’t been a single song that she could sing along to, and that really changed my mind.
— Hwanhee
His groupmate, Brian, showed undivided support for Hwanhee’s new mission, pointing out how good at trot-singing the idol turned out to be!
I was surprised. He used to say he’d only ever do R&B, so I just quietly watched when he said he’d try trot… Turns out he’s really good at it!
