MEOVV — the new girl group from THE BLACK LABEL — recently made their highly anticipated debut with the single “Meow.” Despite the buzz surrounding their release, including the participation of renowned producer Teddy, the group’s first performances and the song itself have unfortunately received mixed reactions from netizens.

MEOVV consists of well-known faces such as former child model Ella Gross, Japanese member Anna, and main dancer Sooin. Gawon, who went by Chloe Lee pre-debut, has also gained attention for her modeling work, while Narin completes the group as the main rapper. Expectations were high for this group, especially with the reputation of their label and the individuals involved.

However, upon the release of their debut track “Meow,” many listeners expressed disappointment. While the song features an energetic beat and catchy melody, some listeners criticized it for being too similar to Teddy’s previous works, drawing comparisons to BLACKPINK’s songs.

While the members’ visuals and presence were praised, the overall performance left viewers wanting more. Ella, in particular, was noted as not standing out as much as expected, with netizens hoping for a stronger stylistic approach in future performances.

  • “The song is really terrible, but the kids are pretty.”
  • “If they keep pushing until they make it, I guess they’ll make it eventually.”
  • “Maybe I had too high expectations because of Teddy… it’s just so-so.”
  • “What’s wrong with the song?”
  • “The song isn’t the best, but the voices are basically good, and it’s easy to recognize each individual member’s face, which is nice. I’m curious about their live performances too.”
  • “The one in black is definitely the main one; she really catches your eye. Ella is a bit more bland than I expected, so I hope they go with a stronger styling for her.”
  • “The song is really bad…”
  • “They can’t help but be compared to BEMON, but they seem noticeably weaker. Sigh.”
