Just what exactly is a K-Pop star supposed to do in response to a past relationship being brought up out of nowhere? Girls’ Generation‘s Yuri might have been asking herself this very question while appearing on the latest episode of TVING‘s True Fan Zone Season 2.

As a well-known Hanwha Eagles baseball fan, Yuri went on the show to watch the “2025 KBO Postseason Playoffs” live. That’s where show host Kim Tae Kyun asked the girl group member how she feels about the Eagles being up against the Samsung Lions.

And while on the surface, it sounds like a harmless question…
We’re up against Samsung today… How do you feel about that?
— Kim Tae Kyun
…both Girls’ Generation and baseball fans know: Yuri dated Oh Seung Hwan, a pitcher for the Samsung Lions, back in 2015. The relationship, which lasted six months, made headlines before the news of their breakup followed.

SM Entertainment confirms Yuri and Oh Seung Hwan’s relationship
As Yuri let out an awkward laugh and replied, “It’s going to be fun,” Kim Tae Kyun added that he went to Oh Seung Hwan’s retirement ceremony—confirming that he was, in fact, bringing up the pitcher because of the idol’s history with him.
To that, Yuri covered her face with both hands, unable to hide how flabbergasted she had become at the unexpected mention of her ex-boyfriend.
A clip of Yuri’s interaction with Kim Tae Kyun has since circulated online and split the netizens. While some found it to be a knee-slap moment, most believed Kim Tae Kyun was rude for bringing up a relationship that ended a whole decade ago, especially when Oh Seung Hwan has since gotten married in 2022 and is now a father to his one son.

- “What’s wrong with him? It’s clear they’ve both moved on with their lives.”
- “So careless and rude.”
- “Kim Tae Kyun has always been like that. He doesn’t even know what embarrassment is.”
- “Wow, he definitely brought that up on purpose to provoke her. So damn rude. It’s only lucky that Yuri laughed it off. That baseball player’s been trying to get more screen time lately… He needs to learn his limits. So annoying.”
- “Sir, I don’t care about baseball or Girls’ Generation, but that wasn’t funny at all. Saying that right in front of her was extremely rude, and I don’t even know what kind of ‘content’ that was supposed to be. I can’t believe they thought it was entertaining enough to air.”
- “What’s ridiculous is that baseball fans are actually praising Kim Tae Kyun for that, calling it funny. Seriously? Maybe it’s because in those baseball communities they always mock and talk down to players, but they really don’t seem to know what manners are. Why would he act like that toward a female celebrity? Would he dare say that in front of Oh Seung Hwan himself? The more I see, the more disgusting it is. Total middle-aged misogynist vibes.”
- “At first, I thought, ‘What’s the big deal?’ but after seeing the comments, yeah, that was seriously rude.”
- “Way too disrespectful… to Oh Seung Hwan’s wife, too.”
- “He was rude to both sides. Why even bring that up? Most people have already moved on.”
