Ahead of SMNGG's debut in 2025, internet sleuths theorized that the daughter of a veteran singer will be the main vocalist.
Who is she?
According to SM Entertainment's music lineup preview for the first quarter of next year, its new girl group since aespa will finally launch, which is now being nicknamed as the label's "Second SNSD."
The group is expected to have nine members from South Korea and countries in Southeast Asia.
Before its launch, SM has been teasing the members with clips and teaser photos flaunting their skills.
Just then, keen-eyed fans are speculating that one of the trainees who will debut is Park Soyoon, the daughter of rock band vocalist Park Sangmin who rose to stardom in the 1980s.
He was also known for singing "Crazy for You," the opening song for the anime "Slam Dunk."
Just hearing these details, the controversy that she's a "Nepo baby" almost took off, but Koreans were quick to refute this and recalled how she had made a name for herself since she was young.
In the past, she joined Mnet's singing competition "We Kid," where she flaunted her excellent voice.
She also shared a duet with her father Sangmin and hit the high notes of the song "Endless Love" by Lionel Richie and Diana Ross.
She's not only known for her voice but her wits as well. In particular, Soyoon once appeared in SBS's "Gifted and Talented Excavation Team 2," as a gifted person who has extraordinary memorization skills.
Her visuals were also commended, with people admiring her double eyelids, beautiful smile, and nose that somehow reminded fans of Red Velvet's main vocalist Wendy.
Her debut is yet to be confirmed, but K-netz are already giving her rave reviews.
- "She definitely inherited her dad's talent."
- "She kind of reminds me of Wendy. She's so cute and refreshing."
- "It feels like she will be popular."
- "Ah, she's the second daughter (of Park Sangmin). I hope she does well, too!"
- "Idols also have to memorize dance songs and foreign languages, and there are a lot of things they have to memorize, so having that memorization ability would be a plus."
