Jennie recently posed for CR Fashion Book, a French magazine that has shot some of the world’s biggest stars, including Kim Kardashian, Madonna, and more. The idol’s feature in Issue 27 was announced on the magazine’s Instagram, which included several images from the shoot.

Jennie wore multiple outfits for the shoot, including some that were ballerina inspired, along with other delicate looking looks.

However, some have found issue with her styling, in particular, many felt that that the photoshoot had a “lolita” vibe. Lolita refers to the novel by Vladimir Nabokov, that depicts a pedophilic relationship between the novel’s main character and  a 12-year-old girl.

Lolita styling in this manner places an emphasis on looking young/youthful, with a sexual edge.

Netizens criticized the magazine, saying that while Jennie looked beautiful, the styling was uncomfortable and even “pedophilic.”

  • “Honestly, just the Calvin Klein shoots where she was only in underwear looked better. That one’s way too Lolita.”
  • “All the outfits in the first pic look so pedophilic, it’s honestly really disgusting… Normally I just go ‘ugh whatever’ at revealing clothes, but this is the first time I’ve felt this uncomfortable. For the first time in my life I actually thought, ‘Just do a cool-girl concept instead.’”
  • “This isn’t about blaming Jennie — it’s the magazine concept that’s disgusting. It’s obviously got a Lolita vibe, and fans pretending not to see it are just… sigh.”
  • “In the end, the ones harmed by this will be underage girls… It’s revolting.”
