The King Returns: G-DRAGON Draws 20,000 Fans Across Two Nights [Übermensch] Tour in KL

After years of anticipation, G-DRAGON finally made his highly awaited solo return to Malaysia with 2025 WORLD TOUR [Übermensch], held at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil on 19 and 20 July.  With both nights sold out and a total of 20,000 fans filling the arena, the energy was off the charts as the K-pop icon delivered a powerful performance that showcased not just his artistry, but his evolution as a performer.

This marks G-DRAGON’s first solo world tour in eight years, in support of his third studio album "Übermensch", released earlier this year. Much like the album’s concept, the concert explored the duality of his persona — one rooted in the past, the other firmly grounded in the present. This mirrored the symbolic two figures on the tour poster and came to life through stunning visuals, high-concept stage design, and thought-provoking narratives throughout the show.

From the moment he appeared in a striking red outfit and opened the show with "POWER", the crowd was captivated. The 2.5-hour show saw him run through a career-spanning setlist — "Home Sweet Home," "MICHIGO," "One of a Kind," "Crayon," "Crooked," "Heartbreaker," "BULLSH*T," "Who You?", and more — each track reimagined with bold arrangements, unique visuals, and signature charisma.

A special moment came during "Home Sweet Home" when Taeyang and Daesung made a special appearance on the LED screen, stirring hopes for a BIGBANG reunion. G-DRAGON added fuel to the fire by teasing, “Next year is BIGBANG’s 20th anniversary. I hope I can return with the members together to Malaysia. And hope that you’ll always be right there for us." Cue instant cheers from fans.

Throughout the night, G-DRAGON made an effort to connect with the crowd by speaking in Malay, saying phrases like “Terima kasih,” “Mantap,” “Hari ini dah makan?” “Saya sangat gembira,” and even “Syok gila!”. Though not perfect, the effort touched many, especially as fans playfully helped correct his pronunciation — a heartwarming exchange that brought artist and audience closer.

One of the standout highlights came during the encore, when the stadium was lit up by fans singing "Untitled, 2024" in unison before G-DRAGON returned to perform "A Boy," "This Love," "1 Year," "IBELONGHU," and one final reprise of "Untitled, 2024". During "1 Year," he stepped off the stage and made his way to the rockzone area, surprising fans as he reached out, interacted, and shared real-time moments up-close. The energy was explosive — a true gift for those lucky enough to be near him.

Visually, the concert was nothing short of extraordinary — from shifting LED screens to massive inflatable figures, grand floral installations, laser shows, and avant-garde outfits that only GD could pull off (yes, even a bathrobe looked high fashion on him). Every detail of the show bore his creative imprint — a clear display of his obsession with style, art, and authenticity. Even fans without tickets camped outside the arena, hoping to hear a note or catch a glimpse. That’s how deep the love runs for G-DRAGON in Malaysia.

His two-night performance was more than a concert — it was an experience that reaffirmed why he remains an icon of K-pop and a cultural force like no other. As the final lights dimmed and fans poured out with teary smiles and hoarse voices, one thing was certain — Malaysia is ready for more, and G-DRAGON’s promise to return with BIGBANG is one fans are holding close to their hearts. Now all that’s left is to wait (impatiently) for that reunion to happen in Malaysia. G-DRAGON, we’ll be right here.
