With fall just around the corner, it would make sense for K-Pop acts to transition to more laid-back or reflective tracks. However, with a little bit of summer left, WJSN’s DaYoung has kept the heat of summer alive through her solo release.

On September 9, the idol released her single album, “gonna love me, right?” and immediately captured fans’ attention. Nearly a week has passed and it has still managed to remain a trending topic among K-Pop communities. While the album features three tracks, many have become especially captivated by the title track, ‘body’.

Seeing as this is her solo debut, many agree that DaYoung is off to a promising start as a solo artist, receiving overflowing support from colleagues and fans alike.

A Contrast To Her Past Self

From pre-debut days to now, DaYoung has proven herself to be a born performer. There’s no doubt that she’s skilled, able to execute any concept given to her, but DaYoung’s solo debut showcases a side that fans haven’t seen before.

As a member of WJSN, DaYoung and her groupmates often portrayed dreamy, space-themed concepts with a fantastical atmosphere in their music videos and performances. As a member of WJSN CHOCOME, DaYoung showed a whimsical and cute persona that never failed to make fans smile.

However, this time around, DaYoung changes into a confident summer queen. Though she’s part of WJSN’s maknae line, through her solo debut DaYoung shows that she’s grown into an independent young woman, capable of standing on stage all by herself. Despite being able to shine with her members, she shows a different type of charisma as a soloist.

The Sound Of Past Summers

Fans have been applauding ‘body’ for bringing life to their playlists as the perfect song to close out summer. Listeners from both Korea and abroad have commented that it would have been a hit if it were released at the height of summer. Beyond the seasonal vibes, there’s another reason why fans are loving this track.

Some people are pointing to the nostalgia that ‘body’ brings. Although an entirely new song, it reminds listeners of Starship’s iconic summer queens, SISTAR. DaYoung herself, along with her fellow members, have voiced the same sentiment. This shows that the K-Pop community as a whole has recognized DaYoung’s efforts, comparing her music to a group who was so prominent in the past.

Though she’ll go on to create her own music, K-Pop fans are happy to know that she’s carrying on SISTAR’s legacy, even if it’s through a single release.

Making A Statement With ‘body’

Through the release of “gonna love me, right?” DaYoung has made several powerful statements. Musically, she’s shown her ability to be flexible, pursuing a different genre that she hasn’t tried before. It also differentiates herself from DaYoung as a girl group member and DaYoung the soloist, pushing boundaries and treading along an entirely new path. Then there’s the effort she put in into toning her own body, sporting a stunning physique that embodies the confident image that ‘body’ represents.

Seeing how much she’s changed both physically and musically has fans showering her with nothing but praise for her recent release. The attention she received at release has yet to die down as she continues to trend across social media. This lasting power serves as a good sign to the start of her solo career and hints at a bright future ahead of her.

DaYoung is no longer the little girl that stood on that stage in the competition program “K-Pop Star”. Now she stands before crowds as an artist, ready for any concept that comes her way. Even without any promotions prior to her solo release, DaYoung is still killing it and could very well go far in the future.
