Channel A’s Revival of Weekend Dramas Begins With “Cinderella at 2 AM”

Cinderella at 2 AM marks a significant return to the weekend drama scene, promising a refreshing take on the classic fairytale.

The series, starring Moon Sang-min and Shin Hyun-bin, offers a contemporary twist on the Cinderella narrative, focusing on the struggles and triumphs of a modern-day heroine.

Shin Hyun Bin’s character, Ha Yoon-seo, is a far cry from the traditional Cinderella. She’s a capable, independent woman who doesn’t need a prince to rescue her. Instead, she’s navigating the complexities of her career and personal life, proving that she can handle anything that comes her way.

Moon Sang Min’s Seo Joo-won is a chaebol with a heart of gold. While he may come from a privileged background, he’s not a spoiled brat. He’s genuinely caring and supportive of Ha Yoon-seo, and their relationship is built on mutual respect and understanding.

The series’ focus on fun and comfort aligns with Channel A’s rebranding efforts. The channel aims to create content that resonates with viewers and reflects their values and lifestyles. Cinderella at 2 AM is a prime example of this approach, offering a relatable and enjoyable viewing experience.

Following the launch of ‘Cinderella at 2 AM,’ Channel A has lined up a series of weekend dramas, including ‘Marry Me, You,’ a love story about an innocent island bachelor starring Lee Yi Kyung and Jo Soo Min, and ‘Check In Hanyang,’ featuring Bae In-hyeok, Kim Ji-eun, Jung Gun-joo, and Jae-chan, which tells the story of the growth and romance of youth in the Joseon era.

Channel A is making a strategic push to carve out its own niche in the competitive weekend drama market by focusing on themes of ‘fun and comfort.’ This approach aligns with the network’s recent rebranding, which aims to establish Channel A as a platform that resonates with the tastes, values, and lifestyles of its viewers in their everyday lives.

Kim Hong-seok, the head of the programming planning team at Channel A, expressed confidence in ‘Cinderella at 2 AM,’ noting that the drama’s fresh narrative, which breaks away from conventional clichés, coupled with the excellent chemistry between lead actors Moon Sang-min and Shin Hyun-bin, makes it the perfect choice to kick off Channel A’s weekend drama slate.

The drama will premiere on August 24th at 9:20 PM and will be accessible not only through Coupang Play in Korea but also via Viu in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, and globally through the OTT platform Rakuten Viki in the Americas, Europe, Oceania, and India.
