Fu Bao Shows Unusual Signs Of Pseudopregnancy, Netizens Accuse China Of Neglect

After an extremely teary farewell from the entire country, Fu Bao arrived in China in April. Since then, Korean netizens have been apprehensive of her wellbeing in the foreign country.

Fu Bao, the only giant panda born in South Korea, enjoys a celebrity stature in country, beloved dearly by the populace. In her recent videos, she has shown some unusual behavior including decreased appetite and lower activity levels, sparking concerns about her health.

The Chinese Giant Panda Conservation and Research Center responded to these concerns on Monday, September 2, KST through a written clarification on its Weibo account. They explained that Fu Bao was experiencing a phenomenon called “pseudopregnancy,” which entails exhibiting the same physiological and hormal changes a panda goes through during pregnancy. This condition can occur before giant pandas reach sexual maturity (5-7 years old).

While the four-year-old Fu Bao exhibiting the symptoms of this condition is uncommon, the Chinese authorities explained that several other giant pandas have exhibited similar behaviors at her age. The research center also reassured that Fu Bao will get all the necessary help to pass through this period.

Despite the explanation, many netizens are speculating that Fu Bao’s health is suffering in China, either due to the heat in the foreign country or due to neglect.
