South Korean artists across the entertainment industry have postponed their releases and activities in honor of the Jeju Air plane crash that took the lives of 179 passengers.
Television networks have canceled their December 29 airings, including KBS' 2025 Countdown, SBS Inkigayo, Running Man, MBC entertainment shows, KBS variety shows, and The King of Masked Singer.
Idols and soloists have also suspended their activities and planned releases, including BTS (V's birthday content, Run Jin episodes), (G)I-DLE (postponed signing and content releases), IVE (third promotional schedule postponed), and LE SSERAFIM (Yunjin's self-composed song "Jellyfish" release postponed).
The Jeju Air crash, one of South Korea's deadliest accidents in decades, occurred on December 29.
The plane, a Boeing 737-800, had departed from Thailand and attempted to land at Muan International Airport in southern South Korea.
After an initial failed landing attempt, the plane received a bird strike warning, with the pilot issuing a distress signal before the plane came down with its front landing gear closed, overshooting the runway, and bursting into flames as it slammed into a concrete fence.
South Korea has announced a national period of mourning to honor the victims, which commenced on December 29 and ends on January 4.
"As of today, the government designates a seven-day national mourning period until midnight on January 4," announced acting President Choi Sang-mok Sunday evening during a Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters meeting held in Seoul.
"As the acting head of a government responsible for the safety and lives of its citizens, I am overcome with indescribable grief and regret."
